Born and raised in Alabama with a large extended family, Katie appreciates the need for thriving rural communities. She joined the team at Oregonians for Food and Shelter in 2020, after 14 years in the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Center at Oregon State University. Over her career, Katie has worked with producers, industry, regulators, and legislators to bring more focus to the realities on the ground, and the impacts of regulatory decisions on the natural resource sector. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Katie completed service in the Peace Corps in Mongolia. From there, she moved to Oregon and earned a master’s from Oregon State University in Applied Anthropology, with a focus on natural resources and communities. When she’s not working to strike a practical balance between production and protection goals, she’s either wrangling her three kids or seeing how many running miles she can in get in for the month.
